1. Turn off the water main.
2. Drain your hot water heater. If your water heater is not equipped with a floor drain, you may need to connect your garden hose to direct the water elsewhere.
3. Turn on or open all faucets, taps, and drain valves and leave them open until you return. (Double check each wet room and exterior walls to ensure that all have been opened.)
4. Flush all toilets and drain all water from the tanks.
5. Blow excess water from the pipes using an air compressor. (Watch How: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nw0W4Bdta3g )
6. Drain water from the holding tank. Not all homes have holding tanks. After draining all water including the water in the rubber diaphragm, add propylene glycol antifreeze as an extra measure of protection.
7. Add the same type of antifreeze to your sink, tub, and shower drains.
8. Set the thermostat to 60 degrees. Do not turn the thermostat off.
